A unique exhibition of the Museum of Cycladic Art was hosted at the Athens International Airport premises under the title “Permanent Cycladic Art Collection of the Museum”, from October 12th 2011 until January 6th 2012. Through photographs and texts visitors had the chance to learn more on the Cycladic Civilisation, one of the most ancient organised civilizations in Europe. Pictures depicted not only the renowned Cycladic figurines, but also clay, stone and metal vessels, as well as other important findings. The permanent Cycladic Art Collection of the Museum of Cycladic Art is considered one of the most important collections worldwide, including more than 400 objects made of stone, marble, clay and metal, of all Early Cycladic era ranging from 3200 to 2000 B.C. Their transparent insular marble, austere simplicity and abstract quality have inspired artists of the 20th century, such as Brancusi, Matisse, Modigliani and Barbara Hepworth.
