Your journey begins the moment you set foot in the airport, and our goal is to make your stay at Athens Airport as easy and pleasant as possible. Even during peak travel times, you can avoid delays at the check-in counters, security checks, and departure gates. All you need to know are 10 travel tips to fully enjoy your time at the airport before boarding your flight to your destination.

Before You Arrive at the Airport

1. Choose online/mobile check-in before coming to the airport.

2. Keep your travel documents handy and easily accessible throughout the travel process.

At the Departure Entrances

3. Choose the terminal entrance based on your airline’s check-in counter location. You can see the signs with airlines outside each entrance or find out on the airport’s website where we note the recommended entrance for each airline.

4. Check the flight information on the monitors: Check-in counter number, departure time, and departure gate.

At the Check-in Counters

5. If you plan to check-in at the airport and drop off luggage, arrive early! Airline check-in counters open 2-3 hours before the scheduled departure time.

6. If you have completed check-in online and need to drop off luggage done online check-in and want to drop off luggage, use the Baggage Drop-off check-in counter, if available from your airline.

At Passenger and Hand Luggage Screening

7. Keep your electronic devices and liquid containers easily accessible during the screening. Check your airline’s website for what is allowed in your hand luggage. Remember, you can carry liquids up to 100ml per container and as many containers as fit in a 1-liter resealable transparent bag. Empty your water bottle before the security control screening and refill it afterwards at one of the available water coolers.

At Passport Control

8. If you are traveling to a non-Schengen country and have an EU passport, use the automatic control gates if available.

At the Departure Gates

9. If your flight departs from Gates C, you leave from the Satellite Terminal. Allow an extra 15 minutes to reach the gate.

10. Arrive at your gate on time. The gate number will appear on the screens 90-60 minutes before the flight. Regularly check the information monitors in case of changes in time or gate.
