The visual installation by the renowned Italian painter Sonia Ros is a co-production of the Athens International Airport and the Italian Cultural Institute. It “took off” from the Marco Polo Airport in Venice to “land” at the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens, carrying a series of extraordinary art-works, full enigmatic figures and explosive colors. The concept behind the creation of these paintings is that what travelers choose to take with them in their luggage is the reflection of their intimate identity. Every trip is an adventure, every suitcase hides an inner life and at the same time a silent story that is forced to be revealed only in front of the airport metal-detectors. Pursuing her abstract inspiration, Sonia Ros skillfully elaborates these hyper-realistic and technological x-ray pictures generated by the luggage control monitors in order to transform them into fascinating and evocative works of art. Images in which the humble everyday objects come to life, they get transfigured and intertwined like an allegory of our innermost thoughts and desires, like a journey into the deeper layers of the subconscious.
