Who we are

AIA’s Cargo Development oversees all freight and mail handling activities at the airport, acts as the coordinator and facilitator of the airport’s cargo community and spearheads the development and marketing activities of any new cargo relevant projects.

The key to success is the spirit of cooperation and synergy among all members of the local cargo community achieved through an efficient communication vehicle under AIA’s leadership, the Airport Cargo Community Committee (ACCC).

CASE STUDIES

Sea-air cargo

 

Athens International airport is the first European airport to launch multi-modal flows in the form of the combination of maritime, road, and air traffic. The project provides an attractive alternative to pure air transport and enables shippers to forward their cargo from the Eastern Mediterranean region via Piraeus seaport and Athens airport to final destinations in Northern Europe and North America.

Having signed Cooperation Agreements with both Piraeus seaport operators, AIA and the local cargo community offer same-day connection in Athens and a total transit time of five days at competitive rates.

Road Feeder Services (RFS)

 

In order to meet the requirements of various international lead carriers, the cargo community is currently designing a road feeder service connecting international markets via Athens Airport with Salonika and the Balkan States in one and two days respectively.

The Athens RFS project is expected to be launched in the course of the next months.

Promoting Greek Exports

 

The most recent concept under development by the cargo community is targeted to the increase of Greek exports. Greek quality products are already distributed worldwide but new niche markets suitable for airfreight are sought. The aim is to promote aircargo as an alternative transportation solution for specific types of products such as perishables that need to arrive in destination on time and in good condition. Meetings with relevant associations will be scheduled where the advantages of the airfreight will be presented and the solutions will be discussed. The project is expected to be will be launched after Easter.
