Sounds Greek to me! The legendary Arta… at the Athens airport! Friday, November 29th
The lengendary Arta is the 10th destination of the Athens International Airport programme Fly me to the Moon-Sounds Greek to Me! The airport’s programme continues Friday, November 29th, with more images of Greece. The legend of the stone bridge of Arta with its unique architecture, and the history and sites of the area, which abounds with ancient and Byzantine monuments, will be introduced to the Airport’s passengers & visitors on a day dedicated to the local cultural and gastronomic tradition.

Copies of works by the Greek artist Yiannis Moralis, born in Arta -released by the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum for the 100th anniversary of the painter’s birth- will also be displayed. More specifically, the following paintings will be presented: Two Girl Friends (1946), Figure (1951), Funerary composition C (1958-1963), Erotic (1982), Girl untying her sandal (1973) and Aegina (1974).

Arta's most famous monument, the legendary Bridge, will be presented to the public -in miniature- by stone carver Vassilis Themelis, specializing in the art of stone bridges’ restoration. Travellers will be able to draw bridges over small pieces of stone and keep them as a souvenir of the day. At the same time, the folklore Museum of Musical-Philological Association “Skoufas” will be displaying daily objects and household utensils from the region.

Traditional music will be performed by the "Lalitades", a band of six, insisting on authentic traditional sounds of traditional instruments (clarinet, lute, violin, percussion). Τhe Cultural Association, in traditional costumes, will lead a line dance to the rhythms of Arta.

Travellers of the day will also have the opportunity to taste popular recipes and fresh fruit from the region of Epirus.
