MARATHON UNIVERSE: Through the art of the sculptor Nikos Yorgos Papoutsidis
The Athens International Airport, in collaboration with the Marathon Run Museum of the Municipality of Marathon, presents the exhibition “Marathon Universe – Through the art of the sculptor Nikos Yorgos Papoutsidis”.

The thematic of the exhibition evolves around the panhuman idea of the Marathon run, that surpasses the limitations of Time and Space, and is dedicated to the international traveller, who is in daily motion at the Athens airport and, through the art of the creator, ‘travels’ across the Marathon Universe.

Through the works of the artist, visitors of the exhibition become part of the installation by following the Marathon run, and looking at designs, sketches, showcases of maquette sculpture, and audiovisual material of Papoutsidis’s permanent outdoor sculptures. The idea of the Marathon run, with its multiple dimensions and meanings, and powered by the range of the sculptor’s talent, evolves in the exhibition, into an eternal metaphysical message.

“According to Plato’s supreme definition of authentic Art, Papoutsidis managed to imbue his works with the very “Idea” itself of the Marathon”, notes Dora Iliopoulos-Rogan, Dr. Art Historian-Critic, in her text for the exhibition at the Athens airport.
