Easter Traditions from South Kynouria … at the Athens airport!
Sounds Greek to me!
April 19th, 2019
South Kynouria is the seventh destination of the Athens Airport programme Fly me to the Moon-Sounds Greek to Me! The programme continues with even more images of Greece on Friday, April 19th, when the local tradition of Tsakonia with the loom, the Tsakonian eggplant, and the spectacular Easter tradition from Leonidio with the balloons in the sky, will be introduced to the travellers and visitors of the Athens International Airport.
Tsakonia, with the distinctive dialect that has its roots in the ancient Doric Greek, and the local labyrinthine shaped traditional dance, participates in the Fly me to the Moon programme and brings its own unique rhythm to the Athens International Airport. The audience will be initiated into the art of the loom, and will be treated to local tastes.
Visitors will craft hot air balloons and experience the Easter spirit by reviving this unique tradition from the picturesque town of Leonidio. The beautiful capital of Tsakonia, during the Resurrection night, offers a unique spectacle of sound and light created by the distinctive colours of the balloons in the night sky.
