“Aviation and Flight Academy” (June 27 – July 15, 2016)

Aviation sessions for high-school students 14-16 years old by the Hellenic American University and the Athens International Airport


Designed for children 14-16 years old with an interest to learn about the principles of aviation and flight, aiming also to promote aviation studies, the first Aviation and Flight Academy is organised by the Hellenic American University and the Athens International Airport.

Lessons begin on Monday, June 27th, and last until July 15th 2016, including in-class sessions, hands-on learning at the Athens and Megara airports, and flight lessons in a state-of-the-art flight simulator.

These include:

  • Aviation History at the Athens Military Museum & the Hellenic Air Force Museum in Tatoi
  • Flight Operations & Aircraft Maintenance at Aegean Airlines & Athens Airport premises
  • Ground Operations & Air Traffic Management, Athens Airport premises
  • Flight Operations, Megara General Aviation Airport


The first “Aviation and Flight Academy” is organised also in cooperation with Aegean Airlines, the American Community Schools (ACS), Global Aviation S.A., the Hellenic Air Force, and the Athens Military Museum.

On the occasion of the start of the first “Aviation and Flight Academy”, AIA’s Communications and Marketing Director, Ioanna Papadopoulou, stressed:

“The Aviation and Flight Academy is a special and innovative educational initiative that we start as of this year with the Hellenic American University and our other valuable partners.
 
Every day and for almost a month, our 30 students will learn about the principles of aviation from excellent and experienced instructors from the aviation and academic community, through an exciting programme, which will provide first-hand observations and practical learning, and will offer a first image of the exciting and professionally promising aviation sector!”

According to Dr. Triant Flouris, Provost of Hellenic American University and creator of the programme, “The Academy was designed to serve the dreams and aspirations of the next generation of aviation professionals providing them a solid framework on which to build and as such to serve the industry contributing to its development”.
