Tourist Development 2008
Focusing on the development of incoming traffic and
incoming tourism, 2009 was another year of unfavourable
developments, mainly attributed to the global financial
downturn. Foreign resident arrivals from an international
destination amounted to 3.1 million, 7% lower than the
equivalent 2008 levels, while foreign tourists travelling to
Athens decreased even more sharply (-11%), signifying the
strong impact of the recession on tourism (see Chart 3.15).
