A DAY IN THE MUSEUM

The professor of Archaeology
and President of the Acropolis
Museum, is head of an
organisation, considered one of
the best museums in the world,
for the eighth year.

Based on your characteristics, what’s
your contribution to Athens?
With the constant improvement of the
permanent collection and the creation
of new seasonal exhibitions, with the
improvement of the services offered
by the Acropolis Museum and with
the preservation of a low cost ticket,
we believe that the Acropolis Museum
contributes substantially in the increase
of tourist interest in Athens, something
that is proven by the steadily high
number of visitors.
What do you think is the cause of the
Acropolis Museum success?
The continuous response of the
Museum to the expectations of the
contemporary visitor. The exhibition
spaces have been enhanced with a
multitude of reproductions and digital
reconstructions of the exhibits, while
the archaeologist curators serve the
public with information, dialogue and
explanations.
What can a traveler find only in
Athens?
Athens could be regarded as the city of
museums and archaeological sites. Apart
from the Acropolis and its Museum,
there’s great interest in the Ancient
Agora, the Olympeion, the hills of the
Acropolis, the Keramikos, the National
Archaeological Museum, the Byzantine
Museum, the Benaki Museum,
the Museum of Cycladic Art, the
Numismatic Museum and many more
museums and small collections.
