In practice, this means each building’s flat roof is fitted with a concealed
photovoltaic solar system that meets 40% of the hotel’s electricity needs,
while dozens of geothermal wells are used to heat and cool guestrooms
and the domestic water supply. Other innovations include the widespread
use of reclaimed wood and other recycled materials, along with LED
and fluorescent lamps throughout the property, which in combination
with occupancy sensors in guestrooms significantly reduce energy
