The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor has been an ocean activist since 1987, when
he founded the Americas Oceans Campaign, which merged with Oceana in 2002 to become
the world’s largest non-profit organisation in ocean conservation. Last year he narrated a
documentary about the disastrous effects of overfishing under the title The End of the Line and
recently he won the Heart of Green Lifetime Achievement Award. Faced with the question “What
do we do to fix the problems?”, he replies: “You have to base that on science but you need a
spiritual heart to realise that we are all in this together – literally all of us on this planet, and if
we do not see that we’re all in this together, that we all have an impact on each other, then this
experiment won’t work. You really have to rise to your highest level of being human to solve
the environmental problems that are facing the world. To me it’s an incredible conversation.”

να λυθούν τα προβλήματα, απαντά: «Η λύση πρέπει να βασίζεται στην επιστήμη, αλλά στον
πυρήνα της έχει ανάγκη από πνευματικότητα, ώστε να συνειδητοποιήσουμε ότι το θέμα μας
αφορά όλους -κυριολεκτικά όλους όσοι ζούμε στον πλανήτη-, και αν δεν το καταλάβουμε,
τότε αυτό το πείραμε δεν θα έχει αποτέλεσμα. Οφείλουμε να σταθούμε στο ύψος μας και να
αντιμετωπίσουμε τα περιβαλλοντικά προβλήματα. Αυτό είναι για εμένα ένα καίριο ζήτημα».
