Recognising that compelling ethical photography can play a pivotal role in addressing the increasing challenges in conservation, she founded the
International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) in 2003, which initially numbered 40 fellows. It didn’t take long before this coalition of the
world’s most influential photographers attracted the support of scientists, media, indigenous and corporate leaders. In time, Mittermeier’s initiative
has managed to successfully unite people in a cause much more meaningful than the sheer creation of beautiful images; it brought together
people committed in the noble cause of raising awareness about environmental and cultural conservation through powerful images. Eventually,
iLCP became, by the words of its founder, “a community of passionate and eloquent artists capable of inspiring each other and the world at large”.

φωτογράφους με ανησυχίες για το περιβάλλον. Επρόκειτο ουσιαστικά για μια συμμαχία με ευγενή κίνητρα που προσέλκυσε στις τάξεις
της μερικούς από τους σπουδαιότερους φωτογράφους στον κόσμο, αλλά και επιστήμονες, media, πολιτικούς και επιχειρηματίες. Η δύ-
ναμη του ILCP είναι πως έφερε κοντά ανθρώπους προσηλωμένους στη χρήση της εικόνας ως μέσου για την ευαισθητοποίηση του κοι-
νού σε θέματα προστασίας του περιβάλλοντος και των πολιτισμών. Σταδιακά, το iLCP έγινε, όπως λέει η ιδρύτριά του «μια κοινότητα πα-
θιασμένων και εύγλωττων καλλιτεχνών, που δύνανται να εμπνέουν ο ένας τον άλλον και τον κόσμο ολόκληρο».
