Meteora is one of the most well-known
and best climbing areas in the world. Its
name means the ones that stand, hang
alone in the air. There are indications
that monks had climbed to the top of the
towers and monasteries were built. In 1958
Dietrich Hasse, a physicist and alpine climber,
discovered the area and in 1975, he visited
Greece in collaboration with the photographer
Heinz Lothaz Stutte and other German climbers.
As is the custom, a small notebook was left in
a metal box on the top of every peak. On some
infrequently climbed towers you can still find the
notebooks dating back to the seventies. | Τα Μετέωρα
είναι μια από τις πιο δημοφιλείς αναρριχητικές περιοχές
του κόσμου. Το όνομά τους σημαίνει εκείνα που
αιωρούνται και είναι γνωστό ότι οι μοναχοί σκαρφάλωναν
σε αυτούς τους πύργους για να φτάσουν στα μοναστήρια.
Το 1958 ο Γερμανός ορειβάτης Dietrich Hasse ανακάλυψε
την περιοχή και την επισκέφθηκε το 1975 με το φωτογράφο
Heinz Lothaz Stutte κι άλλους αναρριχητές. Μάλιστα, όπως
ορίζει το έθιμο, άφησαν σε κάθε κορυφή ένα σημειωματάριο.
