With his charismatic personality and
international fame, he managed to bring
design closer to people who do not have six
digit salaries. Starck has designed some of the
world’s most impressive hotels and restaurants,
as well as airport terminals and various ordinary
and not-so-ordinary items, such as clocks,
kitchenware, suitcases, toothbrushes and
yachts. However, he does not consider himself
to be an artist – he gracefully accepts the label
“creator”, while he always works in monk-
like solitude. | Μία χαρισματική προσωπικότητα,
μία διεθνούς φήμης διασημότητα κατάφερε να
φέρει το design πιο κοντά στον άνθρωπο που δεν
διαθέτει εξαψήφιο μισθό. Έχει σχεδιάσει μερικά
από τα πιο ιδιαίτερα ξενοδοχεία, εστιατόρια
αλλά και τερματικά αεροδρομίων, προϊόντα
καθημερινής ή όχι και τόσο καθημερινής χρήσης,
από ρολόγια και κουζινικά σκεύη μέχρι βαλίτσες,
οδοντόβουρτες και γιοτ. Δεν πιστεύει όμως πως
είναι καλλιτέχνης. «Δημιουργός» είναι η ετικέτα
που αποδέχεται, ενώ δουλεύει πάντα μόνος του,
«σαν μοναχός».

The great modernist architect uses the exterior
forms of his buildings to reveal the heart of the
design from the outside in. Τhe Lloyd’s Building
in London is perhaps his most representative
work, while he composed the perfect prologue
to contemporary art by co-designing with Renzo
Piano the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Ηis work on
Heathrow Terminal 5 was the perfect answer to
a long-standing British request while he recently
breathed new life into the Barajas airport in
Madrid. | O σπουδαίος μοντερνιστής αρχιτέκτονας
χρησιμοποιεί την εξωτερική εμφάνιση των
κτιρίων ως μια αόρατη διαφάνεια του εσωτερικού,
τοποθετώντας μπροστά τον πυρήνα του σχεδίου
του. To Lloyd's Building στο Λονδίνο είναι
αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα της τεχνικής του,
όπως και το Centre Pompidou στο Παρίσι, που
συνυπογράφει με τον Renzo Piano. Το Terminal
5 στο αεροδρόμιο Heathrow έδωσε απάντηση σε
ένα μακροχρόνιο βρετανικό αίτημα, ενώ πρόσφατα
