Timothy Allen
MANY PHOTOJOURNALISTS tell wonderful stories
through pictures, but Timothy Allen has taken his
passion to a whole new level, as he has been charged
with telling the most fascinating story of all – the
story of humanity. Best known for his photographs
of indigenous peoples and isolated communities
around the world, which document the diversity
of humanity’s cultural heritage, Timothy Allen has
worked as a freelance photographer for major British
broadsheet publications. For his latest work, he spent
nearly two years travelling the world to photograph
the making of the BBC’s landmark television series,
Human Planet. The resulting imagery, published
in an exquisite hardback book, is humbling; from
children barbecuing goliath tarantula spiders
over a crackling fire in Venezuela, to the almost
spiritual quality of a honey gatherer smoking out
a bee’s nest in the Central African Republic, Allen
has managed to capture the planet’s remaining
indigenous societies, preserving a slice of their
life, traditions and culture for future generations.
