Pop culture is increasingly influencing travel
trends today. A destination can be hyped not
only for its cultural and culinary options or
amenities, but also because it "starred" in some
movie or TV series that everyone is binge-
watching at the moment. Or again because it
is the next stop on the tour of a musician or
band. Pop culture references are another rea-
son to visit a particular city. In fact, according
to a Skyscanner survey, 29% of travellers from
the USA are inspired for their travels by movies
and TV series. This trend appears to be even
more popular with younger generations, mil-
lennials and Gen Z, as American Express Trav-
el research shows, 70% of respondents agreed
that they are interested in visiting a destination
after seeing it in a series, film or even the news.

magazine's 2023 Person of the Year, has not
only shaped the music industry like few art-
ists, but is now strongly influencing the trav-
el industry as well. The wildly popular “The
Eras Tour” may become the highest-gross-
ing tour of all time, but the surge it's causing
in tourism is unprecedented: Hotels in the
cities included in the tour are setting record
bookings, airline tickets and restaurants too.
Political leaders ask her to make a tour stop
in their country. In general, the local econo-
mies of the tour cities are boosted to a much
