You are photographing Athens
for decades, so how is this course
reflected in relation to the city?
In 80's I was visiting Athens as a
tourist, with small breaks. Eventually,
as Paris was not providing me with
what I was looking for, I decided to
permanently settle in Athens. As soon
as I came, I started taking pictures like
a maniac, inspired by the movement
of surrealism. I loved the city because
it was trying to cover the distance
separating it from the rest of Europe
and at the same time it had that old-
fashioned spirit. I was lucky enough
to photograph people from all classes
and I found myself inside many
microcosms. I always used the same
method, keeping a sense of equality
within a momentary relationship.
Ηow is Athens today?
It is decaying, it is as if it does not
belong to its inhabitants anymore,
apart from center where people can
find some shelter. However, I think
people are resisting trying to find
ways out, as there is an underground
culture now flourishing.

Το ’80 ερχόμουν στην Αθήνα ως
