the majestic St. André cathedral and Garopapilles, a brand new res-
taurant. My choice of smoked tuna with foie gras and the excellent
wine list provide the perfect ending to my day (garopapilles.com).
DAY FIVE
Taking the locals’ advice to heart, who maintain that “if you visit only
one museum in Bordeaux, this is it”, I decide to visit the Museum of
Aquitaine (musee-aquitaine-bordeaux.fr). I also refuse to leave the
city before savouring a taste of pepper fish steak at Le Bistro du Mu-
sée as I admire views of the cathedral (lebistrodumusee.com), one
of the city’s most characteristic vistas. And if that were not enough,
then the granite “water mirror” at Place de la Bourse sets the scene
for the perfect farewell to the Garonne and to Bordeaux.
