World Tourism Organization: "One Billion Tourists: One Billion opportunities"

Athens International Airport welcomes 169 Millionth Passenger!

On December 13th, 2012, the one-billionth tourist will arrive somewhere in the world!
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO),
the number of international arrivals worldwide will reach 1 billion.

On this occasion, the Greek Ministry of Tourism and the Athens International Airport participate in the celebration and welcome the 169 millionth passenger since the airport opening.

After 11 years, the airport has welcomed 169 million passengers, who traveled from or to Athens, on more than 2 million flights!

The lucky French passenger arrived in Athens at 14.35 from Marseille on Air France flight 4300. The Ministry of Tourism, the airport, and the airline, prepared a special welcome, with best wishes for more exciting air trips!

The Secretary General of Tourism, Mr. Anastasios Liaskos, the CEO of Athens International Airport, Mr. Yiannis Paraschis, and the Country Manager of Air France for Greece, Mr. Yann Gilbert, welcomed the 169 millionth passenger.

The airport offered to the lucky passenger a €300 bonus cheque and Air France offered a complimentary round trip ticket to Marseille, with everyone’s “bon voyage” wishes!
