The carrier operates flights to 10 European destinations with Airbus A320 aircraft. The launch of the new services coincides with the accession of 10 Central and Eastern European countries, which have a combined population of 70 million, into the European Union. Wizz Air aims to cover the needs of this new market, operating on a multibase principle in Central and Eastern Europe.

In a Press event that took place today on the occasion of the inaugural flight of Wizz Air to Athens, Mr. Jozsef Varadi, CEO of Wizz Air, stated: "Athens is a most attractive destination for the people from Central and Eastern Europe. There is significant traffic on a seasonal basis as well as throughout the year. The travelling public does not fly to Athens only as its final destination but also in order to continue to the Greek islands. At the same time, Wizz Air offers a wonderful opportunity to the Greek travelling public to discover the attractions of the new member states of the European Union. I believe Athens is a most promising destination for the development of our company".
