Wireless Internet Zone (WIZ) at Athens International Airport Fast and easy wireless Internet connection at the Airport

Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" expands the range of its state-of-the-art technology services, by launching the Wireless Internet Zone (WIZ).

This brand new, innovative service is the first wireless Internet application available for the public in Greece, offered at Athens International Airport in cooperation with OTEnet. The WIZ service was designed by the IT&T Department of Athens International Airport, which is presently one of the few airports in the world offering wireless Internet services to the public.

The new service offering high-speed wireless Internet access (34 MB), allows passengers and visitors of "Eleftherios Venizelos" airport to easily connect to the Internet via their laptop or palm computers, in order to send their mail, for corporate communication or just for Internet "surfing" purposes, in more than 20 areas of the Main Terminal Building with the relevant signage (Business Centre, Flight Time Cafe, Blue Islands Cafe, Olive Tree restaurant, the biggest part of the check-in area, and many of the Main Terminal Building's boarding gates).

During the pilot phase until mid February 2003, the Wireless Internet Zone service will be offered free of charge. As of mid February 2003, users may choose among different payment schemes (prepaid cards or credit cards) to access the service. The use of wireless Internet access services network will be further expanded in the future for operational applications of airport community members (airlines, ground handlers, in-flight caterers, and cargo handlers).
