Security at the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos"

The terrorist attacks of September 11th in the USA were a serious blow for the air transport sector. Airlines and airports around the world have implemented severe security measures. Today, more than ever, airlines and airports are called to harmoniously combine strict security measures with the continuous provision of passenger friendly services to the public. This applies also for the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos", where all state authorities and competent organizations are constantly adapting the implemented security measures to the existing requirements, qualitatively as well as quantitatively.

Security at the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is subject to the strict legislation of the Greek State, fully harmonized with the international security regulations applying at all international airports.

At "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport, security measures are implemented by several organizations. On the basis of the above, the Hellenic Police, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, the Safety & Security Department of "Athens International Airport S.A.", and Airport users, are cooperating closely on a 24-hour basis.

The system and level of security of the Athens International Airport are subject to the continuous evaluation of Greek State authorities, as well as by international organizations, whose assessments are particularly positive.

All the above organizations are working very closely together for a common goal, i.e. the achievement of the highest possible level of security at the Athens International Airport, constantly making every possible effort to optimize their services.
