Orthodox Easter traffic expected to rise by +5.4%

Aircraft movements to/from Athens International Airport during the Orthodox Easter period (25.04.05-06.05.05) are expected to experience a +5.4% increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

Analytically, on the basis of the scheduled and extra services so far scheduled by airlines for the specific period, domestic traffic and international traffic is expected to increase by +6.7% and +4%, respectively. The expected increase is especially noteworthy compared to 2004, since this year the Catholic and Orthodox Easter do not coincide, as was the case last year.

Charter traffic is expected to experience a significant increase of +64%. More specifically, the charter and extra flights so far scheduled during the period from 28.04 (Holy Thursday) to 03.05 (Easter Tuesday), have as follows:

  • 63 charter flights
  • 50 extra flights

The busiest days for the Orthodox Easter period are:

  • Easter Monday: 547 aircraft movements scheduled
  • Holy Friday: 540 aircraft movements scheduled
  • Holy Thursday: 528 aircraft movements scheduled

On the basis of the scheduled flights, the Greek travelling public’s preferred Easter destinations this year are Istanbul, Corfu, Paris and Prague.
