Following decision of the Board of Directors of "Athens International Airport S.A.”, Mr. Alfred van der Meer is taking over the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer of Athens International Airport as of October 16th, 2002, succeeding Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, who had been CEO of the company since July 2000. After a very successful tenure at the head of the Airport Company, Dr. Mitscherlich announced his resignation in order to assume the position of Chairman of the Executive Board of the German corporation Ferrostaal AG, as well as that of Member of the Executive Board of MAN AG, Ferrostaal’s sole shareholder. Mr. van der Meer’s previous position was Managing Director of "Schiphol International BV", the company formulating and implementing the international strategy of Schiphol Group, owner of the operating company of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The new Chief Executive Officer of Athens International Airport has gained ample international experience and in-depth knowledge of the aviation industry, through his long and successful career in the airport business worldwide. Mr. van der Meer, holder of a MSc in Civil Engineering, can also be characterized by his extensive experience in managing complex legal and financial issues. The Board of Directors of Athens International Airport expressed its thanks and appreciation to departing CEO, Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, for his valuable contribution to the Airport Company. Under the successful management of Dr. Mitscherlich, Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" was established as one of the best airports on an international and European level, already in the very first year of its operation.
