This year, Athens International Airport once again actively supports environmental protection and promotes awareness on the occasion of the "International Day for the Environment".

Aiming to encourage environmental studies, Athens International Airport S.A. offers three graduate scholarships to students who have joined the Department of Environmental Studies / University of the Aegean programme "Environmental Policy and Management", for graduate theses on noise abatement, water management, and bird hazard control.

Moreover, Athens International Airport's Environmental Department constantly undertakes new projects aiming to increase environmental awareness and inform the public about the airport's environmental goals and programmes. One of the most recent initiatives is the creation of the airport's Environmental Information Centre (Main Terminal Building, Departures Level, Entrance 3).

"Eleftherios Venizelos" airport, with its plentiful and continuous presence in the environmental sector, is the first Greek airport - and one of few airports in the world - with an Environmental Department that has been certified according to EN ISO 14001.
