June 5, International Day for the Environment

Athens International Airport offers scholarships to the University of the Aegean on the occasion of the International Day for the Environment.

Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is once again actively present on the occasion of the "International Day for the Environment".

Aiming to encourage environmental studies, Athens International Airport offers -as in the past year- three environmental scholarships to graduate students of the University of the Aegean (Department of Environmental Studies), on topics related to environmental and social responsibility, AIA's environmental performance and study of the airport's landscaping characteristics.

With multiple and continuous activity in the environmental field, "Eleftherios Venizelos" airport is the first Hellenic airport -and one of few worldwide- with an Environmental Department that has been certified according to EN ISO 14001 (certification renewal in 2003). While systematically monitoring the environmental conditions, AIA undertakes various projects and initiatives, such as the construction of parks and green areas for the Municipalities of Glyka Nera, Palini, and Markopoulo.

Information about the airport's environmental goals and programmes is always available for the public at the airport's Environmental Information Centre (Main Terminal Building, Departures Level, Entrance 3).

At our Environmental Infromation Centre, passengers and visitors of the airport will also find the new (6th) Environmental Bulletin, providing analytical details over AIA's environmental activities. The Bulletin, issued on an annual basis, aims to inform the public, local communities, public authorities and other entities, and raise awareness over environmental issues.
