Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is once again actively present on the occasion of the "International Day for the Environment" (June 5th). AIA rewards schools of the Municipality of Artemis that joined the airport’s Recycling Programme, offers environmental scholarships to graduate students of the University of the Aegean, and supports the voluntary programmes of the Pendeli Volunteer Fire Department AIA offers to Artemis Municipality schools that have actively joined the airport’s recycling programme, educational material worth of 20,000 Euros, as a reward for having recycled until today 7 tonnes of paper & aluminium. Moreover, aiming to encourage environmental studies, Athens International Airport offers, for the 4th consecutive year, two environmental scholarships to graduate students of the University of the Aegean (Department of Environmental Studies), on topics related to airport environmental management. In addition, as part of the continuous support of voluntary environmental programmes, AIA contributed to the purchase of a fire brigade vehicle for the Pendeli Volunteer Fire Department, which focuses on forest protection and fire fighting. Continuously taking initiatives in the environmental field, “Eleftherios Venizelos” is one of the few airports worldwide with an Environmental Department certified according to EN ISO 14001. Information about the airport's environmental goals and programmes is always available for the public at the airport’s Environmental Information Centre (Main Terminal Building, Departures Level, Entrance 3 / next to the Airport Museum). At our Environmental Information Centre, passengers and visitors of the airport will also find the new (8th) Environmental Bulletin, providing analytical details over AIA’s environmental activities. The Bulletin, issued on an annual basis, aims to inform the public, local communities, public authorities and other entities, and raise awareness over environmental issues.
