The Joint Inspection Group (JIG) gave a very complimentary rating to the Olympic Fuel Company (OFC) for the aviation fuel facilities and operations it runs at Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos", following the last visit of its qualified inspectors.

The Joint Inspection Group - comprising ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, TotalFinaElf, Agip, Texaco, Caltex, Statoil, Kuwait Petroleum and IATA - concluded that this basic infrastructure of Athens International Airport complies with all international fuel quality and safety standards. Thanks to the well designed, maintained and operated facilities and the highly trained staff, OFC ranks, according to JIG, as one of the best fuel receipt, storage, and distribution facilities in Europe.

Besides, OFC facilities at Athens International Airport have received equally positive results from all other inspections, which are regularly performed not only by internal OFC inspectors and Athens International Airport's competent departments, but also by the end users, i.e. the airlines themselves, as well as by leading international organizations such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In October 1998, the Airport Company, after international bid, conceded this basic infrastructure system to Olympic Fuel Company S.A., which undertook the design, funding, construction, maintenance and operation of the hydrant refuelling system. Olympic Fuel Company S.A. is formed by Olympic Airways, Motor Oil, Avin Oil, BFSC Belgium, and HansaConsult Germany, a fruitful cooperation of the Greek home carrier with the private sector of the Hellenic Oil Industry and International Aviation Fuel Organizations.

In the first 9 months of operation of Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (March-December 2001), Olympic Fuel Company delivered through the Hydrant Refuelling System 512,000.000 litres of fuel, following thorough inspections and tests, in accordance with the international operational standards (checks conducted: 105,000 prior to receipt, 2,200 prior to delivery for aircraft refuelling, and 40,000 checks during fuel distribution).

Operating the most sophisticated facilities in Europe for the receipt, storage, and distribution of aviation fuel, which are controlled by an Automation System, and in accordance with the strict requirements of Athens International Airport S.A., the Olympic Fuel Company provides prompt service with top quality fuel and at the lowest possible cost, with full respect to the environment.
