IATA Survey: Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" on the top ranking positions amongst global airports

"The Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is one of the best airports in the world, on the basis of the latest IATA Global Monitor Survey for the 3rd Quarter of 2001, conducted amongst the major airports in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific", stated the Chief Executive Officer of the Athens International Airport, Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich.

Ranking sixth amongst main international airports, and heading over airports like Hong Kong, Peking, Taipei, and Seattle, the Athens International Airport has a top position in the global arena. The top airport in the world is the new terminal complex of Dubai airport followed by Singapore and Seoul.

On a European level, "Eleftherios Venizelos" ranks second amongst 18 major European Airports including Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Brussels, Vienna, Madrid and Zurich, after Helsinki Vantaa Airport. More specifically, the Athens International Airport was rated top for its "Comfortable waiting/gate areas" and "Value for Money-Catering facilities", while it holds the second position for more than 10 significant service items, such as "Overall Satisfaction - Business Travellers", "Ease of finding the way through the airport/signposting", "Catering Facilities", and "Speed of baggage delivery service".

The independent IATA Global Monitor Survey is the main tool for measuring passengers' satisfaction on an international level. The survey analyses the perception of over 90,000 international passengers for various service categories, on an annual basis. Passengers are asked to rate airports, on the basis of pertinent trip and socio-economic questions.

The Athens International Airport entered the programme as from July 2001. The results of the survey demonstrate that "Eleftherios Venizelos" truly is the new gateway of Greece to the world, a highly competitive airport that will boost Greek tourism significantly. Given that, in the year 2000, Hellenikon airport had held one of the lowest positions on a global scale, the top rating of the new airport globally marks the beginning of a new era for Greek air transport.
