Playing chess at the airport!

In its third year already, the “Fly me to the Moon” programme has offered passengers a multidimensional airport experience comprising concerts, perform-in-art happenings, even shadow theatre. The airport’s cultural programme now continues even more interactively, with the famous song’s second verse! “Let me play” and… floor chess at the airport before taking off! Starting on Friday, December 11th (on the occasion of World Children’s Day), and for three whole days until Sunday December 13th, distinguished chess players and Chess Clubs a specially created airport big floor chessboard will be at the airport! Chess champions will introduce us to the history and the magic world of the game, inviting airport visitors and passengers to play on the checkered floor, turning check-in to… checkmate! On Friday, the Head of Koropi Chess Club, Vassilis Andronis, will talk about the philosophy of the game. Along with him, the two Panhellenic Chess Champions, Nadia and Dimitra Androni, will present the historic 1984 match between Kasparov and Karpov! During the weekend, 9 chess clubs will play on the airport’s chessboard, inviting everybody to play open free games! And as the proverb goes, “…after the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box“. Detailed Programme Friday 11 December 2015 12:00 – 14:00: Mr. Vassilis Andronis’ talk about chess and the philosophy of the game. Presentation of the historic chess match between the World Champions Kasparov and Karpov (1984). 14:00 – 16:00: Free play for the visitors of the airport. Saturday 12 December 2015 12:00 – 14:00: Junior Chess Clubs visit and matches. 14:00 – 16:00: Free play for the visitors of the airport.
