A very special environmental awareness exhibition of artworks created by pupils from all over Greece is hosted at the Environmental Information Centre of Athens International Airport for a period of three months, starting on Wednesday, July 1st. For the fourth consecutive year, this exhibition invites passengers and visitors to a special airport area displaying the best of this year’s “Ecomobility” artwork: models, photographic material, paintings, printed material and novel constructions, all creations of 3rd grade High School pupils, expressing themselves on environmental problems in big cities and creating their ideas of a dream-city, free of exhaust fumes and smog. All artworks were created during the school year 2008-2009, to support pupils’ projects for the environmental campaign “ECOMOBILITY, Ecological Automation, Contribution to the Environment". The programme’s aim is to enhance awareness among citizens on crucial environmental problems caused by the excessive use of vehicles, on the reduction of pollutants affecting the environment and people’s health, and also to provide suggestions-solutions for a better life in big cities. The campaign “ECOMOBILITY - Ecological Automation, Contribution to the Environment" is drawn up by the Voluntary Organisation for Suburban Environment “Ecocity”, and organised under the auspices of: the Greek Ministries of National Education & Religion / Transport & Communications / Development / Mercantile Marine, The Aegean & Island Policy, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Mr Stavros Dimas, and the Representation of the European Commission in Greece. The exhibition will be on display from July 1st through September 30th at Athens International Airport’s Environmental Information Centre (Main Terminal Building/Departures Level/entrance from Gate 3). The exhibition is open 24 hours a day.
