Athens International Airport announced today the «athenspotlighted» programme, an initiative to be launched on November 14th, aiming at boosting the attractiveness of the city of Athens as a city break destination for foreign visitors. The programme “brings under the spotlights” many interesting spots in Athens at discounted prices, promoting a face of the city, which is perhaps not very well known, thus contributing to the city image, especially amid a very difficult period for Greece. Furthermore, the «athenspotlighted» programme aspires at providing foreign visitors with the opportunity to make the best possible use of their time in the capital city of Greece and enjoy its unique and most interesting aspect.
The «athenspotlighted» city card will be available for incoming foreign passengers – free of charge - at designated spots in the airport’s arrivals’ level. The city card will be offering significantly discounted prices, special rates and offers for a period of 10 days, relating to areas such as:
Sixty-four businesses and organizations have already joined the “athenspotlighted” programme, expected to have exceeded one hundred by the end of the year. The city card addresses foreign residents visiting Athens for a city-break or for a 10-day stay (this group represented 67% of the total foreign residents’ arrivals in 2011).
«athenspotlighted» is an AIA initiative, materialized in cooperation with “Desmi Ekdotiki S.A.” (Athinorama magazine). A significant role in the promotion of the programme internationally is undertaken by the Greek National Tourism Organization and airlines flying to Athens. With the card’s main advantages being that it is easy to get, it is free of charge and offers a wide range of services and products, the «athenspotlighted» programme aspires at becoming one more good reason for travellers to choose Athens as their destination.
