Athens International Airport in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts is hosting an exhibition presenting the School’s educational and visual artwork at the Main Terminal Building, in the exhibition area “Art and Culture” from May 3rd until August 31st, 2012.
The exhibition displays audiovisual material from the most important moments in the history of the Athens School of Fine Arts, which, during its 175-year span of art education, research and social contribution, has impacted significantly the evolution of Greek culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the educational and research work of the School’s Department of Fine Arts as well as of the relatively recently established (2006) Department of Theory and History of Art. Particular emphasis is placed on the display of contemporary art creations from the Department of Fine Arts (painting, sculpture, engraving, and digital art forms).
All digitally displayed artworks are part of the School’s Gallery, which includes characteristic examples of the artistic production of both Studio Professors and students. The Gallery, a rich harvest of 175 years of history, contains about 8,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, icons and mosaics; it is a living showcase of its own history, and, hence, of a very significant part of Modern Greek Art. In addition, the exhibition also presents material from recent exhibitions and expanded activities of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
The exhibition will be on display for 4 months at the airport’s arrivals (entrance 1). The “Art & Culture” area is accessible to all passengers and visitors, open daily on a 24h basis.
