Athens International Airport: Special measures during the Olympic Games departure peak of 29-31 August

Aiming at providing high levels of service to all passengers and ensuring their seamless facilitation during the OG period, Athens International Airport has adopted a number of measures, focusing mainly on the peak days and hours.

During the departures peak between the 29th and 31st of August, the airport’s traffic is expected to break all records (30th August - 878 scheduled aircraft movements) due to the mass departure wave that follows the closing of Olympic Games. Within this context, and in order to avoid any irregularities observed during the departure process in past Olympiads, Athens International Airport, in close cooperation with the airlines and other relevant authorities, would like to inform the public on the following:

Measures to avoid congestion in the Departures Level of the Main Terminal Building

  • In order to ensure a seamless passenger flow, entrance to the Departures level of the Main Terminal Building will only be allowed to ticket holders.
  • Entrance to the Departures Level of the terminal will not be allowed earlier than 3 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • It is recommended that passenger escorts avoid visits to the airport during this period.
