The CEO of Athens International Airport, Dr. Yiannis Paraschis, was re-elected President of ACI Europe, the voice of Europe’s airports, within the framework of the 18th ACI EUROPE Annual Assembly, in Paris.
On the occasion of his re-election for a second term, Dr. Paraschis stated: “I am delighted to continue in this role for a second year – the past year has seen many issues to be addressed for the airport industry, from the environment to security, from airport charges to the reviewing of slot regulation. We are looking forward to continuing this progress, strengthening our work in the year ahead, as the current deterioration in the economic climate means that tangible successes are even more important for an industry faced with such an array of challenges. On the issue of greenhouse gas emissions and despite the very low impact of airports’ own operations, the General Assembly was highlighted by a landmark environmental resolution committing Europe’s airports towards reducing carbon emissions and at the same time setting a roadmap for the establishment of a European wide accreditation scheme allowing airports to achieve this commitment.”
Dr. Paraschis is also a Member of the ACI World Governing Board, representing the interests of 1,530 airports in 176 countries internationally.
ACI EUROPE
ACI EUROPE represents the interests of some 400 airports in 45 countries. Member airports handle 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe, welcoming over a billion passengers each year. ACI EUROPE promotes the exchange of industry know-how, while, by actively seeking the views of airport members, the association generates comprehensive common policies that serve as a reference to the entire aviation industry. ACI EUROPE works on a day-to-day basis with the institutions of the European Union, the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the European Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). ACI World pursues the same mission with the International Civil Aviation Organisation of the United Nations (ICAO) and other world organisations. By mobilising its in-house expertise, EU contacts and a range of communication tools, ACI EUROPE aims to promote a wider understanding of the challenges facing civil aviation in Europe.
