Athens International Airport delivers a new park to the Municipality of Koropi

Other construction projects in neighboring municipalities are underway - Artemis coastal forest created

Athens International Airport has created a new 10,000 m² park for the Municipality of Koropi , as part of its commitment to provide urban green areas to the local communities.

The “Park of Dexameni” provides visitors with a variety of outdoor entertainment facilities, including the renovated water reservoir building (the original building constructed in 1932), a new open theatre (of approximately 900 spectators’ capacity), a kiosk within a small field, paved paths across the park, a playground, and a planted area with more than 600 trees and shrubs of the local flora among other plants.

In the event of handing over the park to the Municipality of Koropi, Mr. Panagiotis Karamanos - Manager, Environmental Services of Athens International Airport - stated, “It is with great pleasure that we present the “ Park of Dexameni” to the Municipality of Koropi, aspiring to contribute to the preservation of the natural environment of the neighbouring communities with another project. We warmly thank the Mayor and Municipal Council for their exceptional cooperation towards the completion of this project.”

The official inauguration of the park will take place on Sunday, July 2nd.

New projects within other neighbouring municipalities

Moreover, within the framework of responsibly and proactively upholding the harmonic coexistence between the local communities and the airport, AIA’s summer agenda consists of the following:

  • The redesign and construction of Artemis coastal forest (to be handed over in July 2006). In one area of 26,000 m² along the largest coast in the municipality, AIA is building a playground, arranging a botanic garden, planting more than 3,000 trees and shrubs of local flora, undertaking the lighting of the area, designing and constructing entertainment facilities, and paving paths to conveniently allow visitors to walk around the area
  • The inauguration of the new Municipal Infirmaries of Artemis, constructed by AIA, which will take place in July. The infirmaries already operate and offer first-degree medical services to the citizens of Artemis
  • The completion of the road asphalt works in Artemis Ypapandis Street, length of 2.8 km, in the centre of the town) and in Spata (part of Kiafas Street, and also the replacement of 700 light bulbs in various locations in the Artemis road network. Moreover, the pavement of the courtyard at the newly built children’s psychiatric boardinghouse, called “The Home of the Sun” in Artemis
