Athens International Airport is creating a new 10,000 m² park for the Municipality of Koropi, as part of its commitment to create urban green areas and preserve the natural environment of local communities. Construction works for the new park at Koropi commenced on September 14th, 2005. Upon completion of the project, a renovated water reservoir building will be delivered (original building constructed in 1932), along with a new open theatre (of approximately 900 spectators’ capacity), a kiosk with an outdoor area, paved paths across the park, a playground, and a planted area with more than 600 trees and shrubs of the local flora, and other plants. Among Athens International Airport’s other projects undertaken in the neighbouring municipalities, the following urban green areas have already been created for the Municipalities of Markopoulo, Pallini, and Glyka Nera:
On the occasion of the commencement of works for the new park at Koropi, Mr. Yiannis Tsapalas, Chief Corporate Services Officer of Athens International Airport S.A., stated: “We are delighted for this new opportunity for Athens International Airport to contribute to the local communities’ natural environment by one more green area project, this time for the neighbouring Municipality of Koropi.
