Athens International Airport. Airport Company implements enhanced security measures

Within the framework of enhancing security measures at "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport, Athens International Airport S.A. furnished its security services with additional equipment of increased sensitivity and enhanced efficiency in the detection of explosives.

Three (3) of the so-called sniffers have already been placed at passenger and hand baggage screening points, whereas, the Airport's explosive detection equipment will be further reinforced with five (5) additional sniffers.

Athens International Airport's new state-of-the-art sniffers are equipped with latest technology software. This sophisticated explosive detection equipment is handled by Athens International Airport's specially trained security staff, with the contribution of the Hellenic Police.

The provision and installation of the new equipment is within the framework of Athens International Airport's continuous effort to ensure the highest possible level of security, by using state-of-the-art equipment and catering to the continuous training of its security personnel.

Other additional security measures of AIA:

  • increased security vehicle patrols in the area falling within the scope of responsibility of the airport
  • increased patrols by security staff at the Terminals
  • thorough inspection of vehicles and persons at the entrances to the apron
  • supervision of airlines' offices and access control using specialized equipment
  • increased supervision of the areas accessible to the public
