Athens International Airport: A new park for the neighbouring Spata-Artemis Municipality

Athens International Airport created one more park for the residents of its neighbouring communities. The new park, covering 24,000 square metres, was delivered to the Spata-Artemis Municipality, within the airport company’s commitment to contribute to the preservation of the environment in the surrounding communities, by creating urban green areas.

The park’s construction began in March 2011 and was completed last December. The newly developed area is situated within the business park of Spata, at the “Petra_Gialou-Voulia-Prokalissi” location. The area provides:

  • A paved central cyclical square, with a kiosk
  • A playground
  • Pedestrian and cycling lanes
  • Rest areas, with benches, kiosks, etc.

A big number of trees, shrubs and other plants were planted in the park area.

The new park is the sixth urban green area created by AIA in the area surrounding the airport, similar projects having previously delivered to the Municipalities of Pallini, Markopoulo, Koropi, Glyka Nera, and Artemis. The total surface of all AIA parks exceeds 80,000 sq.m.
