AIA supports the Airlines by significantly reducing its landing and parking charges

Committed to its effort to provide support to airlines during this difficult period, the Athens International Airport has proceeded in implementing a special program of reduced parking and landing charges, for the year 2002.

This program - resulting from the fruitful cooperation between the Ministries of Transport and Communications and of National Economy with Athens International Airport - is expected to relieve the cost burden of all airlines using "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport.

Within the framework of seeking the best possible option for airlines, while ensuring at the same time the Airport's capability to fulfill its financial obligations, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the introduction of the following measures for the above period:

  • Á reduction of 15% on landing and parking charges for all aircraft over 55 tons.
  • A reduction of 23% on landing and parking charges for all aircraft under 55 tons.
  • Incentives for the further development of the thin international routes, based on specific conditions, through further reductions of Landing and Parking Charges
  • Waiver of the Passenger Terminal Facility Charges for the domestic destinations under the public service obligation

The above measures are expected to contribute to the reduction of the airlines' direct operating cost, while also enhancing the airport's competitiveness. Furthermore, the second and third measure that relate to aircraft on short-haul routes on one hand and routes that enhance the competitive advantage of the airport on the other, further support AIA's vision of becoming Southeastern Europe's major hub, connecting Greece, the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean with European and long-haul destinations.
