Committed to its effort to provide support to airlines during this difficult period, the Athens International Airport has proceeded in implementing a special program of reduced parking and landing charges, for the year 2002. This program - resulting from the fruitful cooperation between the Ministries of Transport and Communications and of National Economy with Athens International Airport - is expected to relieve the cost burden of all airlines using "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport. Within the framework of seeking the best possible option for airlines, while ensuring at the same time the Airport's capability to fulfill its financial obligations, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the introduction of the following measures for the above period:
The above measures are expected to contribute to the reduction of the airlines' direct operating cost, while also enhancing the airport's competitiveness. Furthermore, the second and third measure that relate to aircraft on short-haul routes on one hand and routes that enhance the competitive advantage of the airport on the other, further support AIA's vision of becoming Southeastern Europe's major hub, connecting Greece, the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean with European and long-haul destinations.
