AIA's 8th Airline Marketing Workshop - Athens International Airport awards airlines for their development in 2007

The annual Airline Marketing Workshop, organised for the eighth consecutive year by Athens International Airport (AIA), was highlighted by the special awards presented by AIA to the airlines that recorded the highest passenger development in 2007, which was another record year for the airport’s passenger traffic (16.5 million passengers, +10% on a year-to-year basis).

As every year, the 8th Airline Marketing Workshop was a unique communication opportunity for the Airport Company and the airlines, regarding issues such as the 2007 market overview, modern communication & marketing approaches, aviation and technology, e-travel services and passenger feedback. On this occasion, Athens International Airport presented special awards to the fastest growing airlines for 2007, in the categories of geographical region, thin route, best performing newcomer, and best of the top-10 airlines.

The airline awards as per respective category were the following:

A. Best Performing New Airline Award

  • SkyEurope was awarded for recording in 2007 the highest passenger traffic numbers, among all newcomers that launched scheduled operations in 2006.

Β. Best of the TOP-10 Airlines Award

  • easyJet was awarded as the overall fastest growing airline operating at AIA in 2007, among the 10 airlines that recorded the highest passenger traffic volumes.

C. Fastest Growing Airline in a Thin Route Award (2006 – 2007, irrespective of geographical region)

  • Uzbekistan Airways received the award for achieving the highest percentage annual passenger growth in 2007.
 

D. Fastest Growing Airline Award per geographical region (Highest percentage passenger growth, 2006 - 2007)

  • Germanwings was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Western Europe.
  • Aeroflot - Russian Airlines was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Eastern Europe.
  • Qatar Airways was awarded as the fastest growing airline for the Middle East.
  • Olympic Airlines was awarded as the fastest growing airline for America.
  • Thai Airways was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Asia.
  • Aegean Airlines was awarded as the fastest growing airline for the domestic region.
  • Egypt Air was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Africa.
 
  • Aegean Airlines was also awarded for presenting the highest passenger volumes increase at Athens International Airport in 2007
 

AIA’s 8th Airline Marketing Workshop was held on Friday, February 8th, 2008 at the International Conference Centre of Athens Megaron, attended by the representatives of the airlines operating at Athens International Airport.

This year’s guest speakers were Mr. John Blanchfield, Director, Technical Manager Airbus, presenting “Airbus Perspective on the Challenges Facing Aviation”, and Mr. Nick Andrews, Senior Vice-President & Partner, Fleishman-Hillard, who focused on “Meeting the Environmental Challenge”.
