June 5th is celebrated globally as “World Environment Day”. Our company is once again actively participating in this year's celebration with the following initiatives:
Recycling Programme at the schools of the Spata-Artemis Municipality The Airport Company continues to reward the schools of the Spata-Artemis Municipality for their participation in its recycling programme by offering educational materials and organising environmental activities. In 2011, the students collected 4.3 tonnes of paper and aluminium, while since 2005 the total amount of recycled material exceeds 37 tonnes.
FOD (Foreign Object Debris) collection We are organising an activity related to FOD (Foreign Object Debris) collection at the airport apron area with the participation of more than 50 volunteers from the Airport Company and Third Parties.
Two-day recycling competition for AIA employees In order to strengthen our recycling programme, on Tuesday, June 5th and Wednesday, June 6th, we are organising a recycling competition for airport employees.
Scholarships for the University of the Aegean For the 10th consecutive year, we are offering environmental management scholarships to 2 postgraduate students at the University of the Aegean (Department of Environmental Studies).
Completion of 6th Park We completed the construction of the 6th park outside the airport fence. The park, which is located in the Spata-Artemis Municipality, includes extensive walking and cycling paths, a children's playground and open area for different activities, as well as more than 5,000 newly planted trees and shrubs, bringing the total green area delivered by the Airport Company to local communities to 84,000 m2.
