3rd place for athlete George Delikouras in the international paralympic sailing race "Trofeo Citta di Lignano"

Sailing athlete George Delikouras of the Piraeus Sailing Club ranked 3rd in the international regatta “Trofeo Citta di Lignano” for 2.4 mR boats, in Lignano/Italy on 24-25 March. The race was the second round of the Italian 2.4 mR championship, in which disabled athletes compete with athletes without disabilities, on equal terms.

This was the first time a Greek disabled athlete is among the winners in an international regatta, competing with athletes without disabilities.

The Greek athlete ranked 3rd in a total of 19 participations, one penalty point behind the first two winners.

George Delikouras participated with the Greek team in Athens 2004 Paparlympic Games, where he ranked 8th in the SONAR class. Since 2005, he has started a Paralympic campaign in the 2.4 mR class, aiming to qualify Greece for the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008.

George Delikouras works at Athens International Airport S.A., as Head, IT architecture and network security. Athens International Airport is his main sponsor since 2003, supporting the effort for qualification in the Beijing Paralympics. Aegean Airlines is also providing significant support to the athlete, offering all airline tickets for him and his coach during their 2007 Italian regatta series.
