3-year incentive policy for international cargo flights - Athens International Airport extends commercial support for cargo business development

Aiming to promote the development of cargo traffic through Athens, Athens International Airport S.A. (AIA) extends its competitive incentive policy to airlines, by introducing a special three-year supportive scheme for airlines planning to operate international cargo flights.

By offering discounts on airport charges, AIA invites airlines to introduce new or additional international cargo services to Athens. As from September 2005, and in line with the incentive policy applied to passenger flights, AIA has increased the validity of the incentive for international cargo flights to a three (3)-year period:

More specifically, in order to support any airline introducing a new or additional international cargo flight, Athens International Airport is offering the following three-year supportive scheme:

Year 1: 50.0% reduction of the published Landing and Parking Charges

Year 2: 37.5% reduction of the published Landing and Parking Charges

Year 3: 25.0% reduction of the published Landing and Parking Charges

Athens International Airport aims at servicing more cargo flights, which increase both uplift as well as outsized cargo capacity through the airport and developing new, mainly transit, flows. Athens International Airport recently welcomed:

  • a new scheduled cargo flight of British Airways, flying every Wednesday at Athens International Airport. BA’s Boeing 747-400 freighter exceeding 120 tons capacity, uses Athens as an intermediate stop in its new weekly frequency to the Far East (Stansted/London - Porto - Athens - Hong Kong).
  • a weekly cargo flight during the winter flight schedule of Lufthansa Cargo through Athens (Athens / United Arab Emirates / Hong Kong). This service is operated by an MD11 freighter.
