During 2023, delays of more than 15 minutes afected 36.5% of all departing lights compared to 33.5% in
2022 and 30.9% in 2019. The delayed domestic scheduled passenger services, remained at 2019 levels
i.e. 30%, presenting an increase compared to 2022 when they amounted to 26.9%, while the percentage
of delayed European departures from 32.6% in 2019 and 38.6% in 2022 reached 41.8% in 2023; the
Intercontinental scheduled passenger services percentage dropped from 40.8% in 2022 to 37.9% in 2023,
with the respective percentage in 2019 being 26.7%.
The average delay time of all departing lights in 2023 was 41 minutes, the same as in 2019 and lower
than in 2022 by one minute. The average delay time of domestic scheduled passenger services dropped
from 38 in 2022 to 37 minutes, generally very much improved compared to 2019 when it amounted to 46
minutes, while for the European scheduled passenger services, it reached 42 instead of 41 in 2022 and 38
in 2019. The average delay time of Intercontinental departures dropped to 49 minutes, close to 50 in 2022
and 44 in 2019.
July was the month with the highest percentage of delayed departing lights amounting to 57.2%, followed
by August with 50.9%; the average delay times were 45 minutes in July and 41 in August.
Reactionary reasons afected 41.24% of the delayed departures. Besides those, the primary reasons for
delayed departures for the year 2023 were:
• “Air Traic Flow Management” with 18.98%, same as in 2022.
• “Restrictions at Airport of Departure” with 14.75%, lower than the respective category in 2022 by 3.18%,
while only 2.34% of the delayed departures were attributed to “Airport Facilities”.
The average delay time per movement was 18 minutes in 2023.
