In 2023, the aviation industry witnessed a year of recovery from the severe efects of Covid-19,
with air travel demand almost reaching pre-covid-2019 levels. However, it was also a year marked
by new macroeconomic and industry challenges. At the European level, there was high dispersion
in performance among national markets and individual airports, indicating that Europe has
become a fragmented market.
Athens International Airport has been among the fastest-recovering European airports,
experiencing approximately 10% growth over 2019. At present, air travel demand remains
strong, despite the current challenging industry context characterised by geopolitical and
macroeconomic uncertainties, indicating that consumers prioritise travel over other forms of
discretionary spending.
For Athens International Airport, the beginning of 2024 has been marked by another historic
milestone for the Company: the successful listing of AIA on the Athens Exchange since February
7th. In this new era for the Company, the provision of reliable information to all stakeholders
continues to be of high importance.
