08. Financial Statements

Consumers

• The renewal of a large number of Retail Services contracts that were expiring at the end of the year, were
negotiated, achieving a further improvement in AIA’s revenues. Contract terms for various concessions
were improved, securing significant increases in AIA’s yield. Specifically for retail stores, guaranteed
revenues were increased by approximately 20%.

• C ommercial development continued in 2008, aiming to increase passenger satisfaction and improve
the aesthetics within the airport terminal. In this context, 6 new commercial facilities were inaugurated
which enriched the airport’s shopping centre product assortment, while 7 of the existing units were
refurbished.

• In the framework of optimising the utilisation of check-in facilities and offering new alternatives and
faster check-in to travellers, the Airport Company launched AIA’s on airport web check-in service through
twelve dedicated stations, providing also for PRM facilitation.

• In August 2008 the Company completed the expansion of the long term parking area. The longterm
parking capacity increased by 2,300 spaces, reaching a total of 5,800. Furthermore, the Airport Company
investigated alternative options to accommodate future car parking demand and concluded to the
solution of constructing a multi-storey car parking facility at the short term parking (P1) location. The
new parking facility is estimated to offer airport users more than 3,800 parking spaces and its conceptual
design is already completed and approved by the Board of Directors.

Property

• In the context of the airport’s real estate development, the construction of the state-of- the-art Metropolitan
Exhibition & Conference Centre was completed in 2008, with the first exhibition running in January 2009.
The indoor space of 50,000 m2 consists of 4 halls dedicated to exhibition events and 2 conference rooms
accommodating a total of 600 attendees. Its parking facilities have a capacity of 3,500 spaces, while a
shuttle bus service connects the MTB/Suburban railway station area with the Metropolitan Exhibition
& Conference Centre. In parallel with this project, the Airport Company invested in new infrastructure
works (access roads, expansion of utility networks) which will also serve the airport’s north-western area
future development.

• In 2008 the Airport Company signed the lease agreement with Aegean Airlines for the development
of a Line Maintenance Hangar. The construction of the hangar is under the responsibility of Aegean
Airlines, while AIA provided the necessary infrastructure. The hangar is expected to be operational in
early 2009.

• AIA received the “Air Cargo Excellence (ACE)” award in the European Airport category of less than 500,000
tons per year, according to the results of the fourth annual survey, conducted by the international cargo
magazine “Air Cargo World”.

Information Technology & Telecommunications

• In April 2008, the Airport Company in consortium with two leading IT&T firms signed with HCAA the
contract for the implementation of the CUTE system in five (5) Hellenic regional airports (Thessaloniki,
Heraklion, Kos, Rhodes and Corfu). The project was successfully completed and gave to AIA additional non-
aeronautical revenues, while strengthening company reputation, expertise and quality of services.

• IT&T Business Unit successfully completed the annual ISO 9001:2000 audit and renewed its certification,
thus retaining its ability to extend its external business by participating and leading bid efforts for EU
and Greek tenders. In addition, it continued providing consulting services to
