The life and work of the eminent Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos are depicted in the photo exhibition "Eleftherios Venizelos at Athens International Airport", which is permanently on display at the Main Terminal Building / Entrance 3 / Departures Level. The objective of the exhibition - jointly organized by Athens International Airport and the National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos" - is to portray the decisive role of Eleftherios Venizelos in the history and social development of the country, to the travellers and visitors to Athens Airport, which is named in honour of the great Greek statesman. Aspects of the personality and work of Eleftherios Venizelos are illustrated through the remarkable photographic material, which has been meticulously selected for this exhibition, which is also a tribute to the visionary, who, during his brilliant political career, founded the "Ministry of Aviation" and established Civil Aviation in Greece. The material used for this exhibition mainly originates from the photographic archive of the National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos", based in Chania, Crete, birthplace of the prominent statesman. Also, certain photographs have been kindly contributed by the following institutions:
The bust of Eleftherios Venizelos, which dominates the exhibition area, has been kindly donated by Mrs. Electra Th. Vassiliou, in memory of her husband, sculptor Theodore Vassiliou. The exhibition, which constitutes a very special feature within the framework of the Airport’s overall target to contribute to the cultural life and international promotion of the country, can be visited by all passengers or visitors to "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport, 24 hours a day.
